Vibrant “All Aboard” Art Installation Unveiled at Aldershot Railway Station

Commuters atAldershot Railway Station were treated to a stunning new art installation, “All Aboard”, unveiled on 24 January 2025. Created by University for the Creative Arts (UCA) graduate Brianna Chartrand, this vibrant mural is located in the underpass between the station’s busy platforms. The project is the result of a collaborative effort between UCA, Rushmoor Borough Council, Network Rail, South Western Railway, and local signage company Reade Signs.

The mural showcases Aldershot’s key heritage sites, including the Cenotaph in Municipal Gardens, Cambridge Military Hospital, and the Post Office building in the town centre. The design also integrates Nepali mandala patterns and poppies to honor Aldershot’s important role as the Home of the British Army. These cultural and historical symbols are woven together to create a striking visual tribute to the town’s past and present. The unveiling of the installation also marks a significant moment for the local community, as it celebrates the opening of Polden Studios in September 2024—a new accommodation space for UCA students in the Union Yard developmentat the heart of Aldershot Town Centre.

Diane Highet, Town Centres Manager at Rushmoor Borough Council, and Claire Lowe, Brand Marketing Manager at UCA,were instrumental in working with station staff and Reade Signs to bring the installation to life, creating a vibrant public space for both commuters and locals to enjoy.

Councillor Keith Dibble, Cabinet Member for Development and Economic Growth, praised the project as a perfect example of collaboration between local businesses, artists, and institutions to enhance the public realm. He noted,“The ‘All-Aboard’ installation beautifully captures the essence of Aldershot’s past and present, making it a fitting addition to the station and a source of pride for the community.”

Claire Lowe echoed this sentiment, stating, “We’re delighted to bring a burst of creativity from one of our talented graduates to a small pocket of Aldershot. We hope the vibrant visual celebration of the town will bring joy to commuters through the station.” The mural, now permanently on display, was funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, Rushmoor Borough Council, and UCA, and stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and community engagement. “All Aboard” is a vibrant addition to Aldershot’s public art scene, bringing a renewed sense of pride and creativity to the town.
