Will Kirk, star of BBC’s Repair Shop, joined local leaders and volunteers in celebrating the Farnham Repair Café’s (FRC) 100th session. This milestone event, held in partnership with UCA, Farnham Town Council, and The Spire Church, marked a successful chapter for the community-driven initiative that promotes repair over replacement.
Alongside Martin Charter (Director of UCA’s Centre for Sustainable Design), Greg Stafford (MP for Farnham and Bordon), John Ward (Mayor of Waverley), and George Murray (Deputy Mayor of Farnham), Will Kirk took part in the occasion, highlighting the cafe’s contribution to the local community’s environmental efforts and support during challenging times.
The event saw 50 items brought in for repair, including electronics, furniture, clothing, and even teddy bears. Most items were successfully restored, thanks to the volunteer experts, ranging from IT specialists to mechanics. Notably, the youngest volunteer, 17-year-old Ben from More House School, is aspiring to turn his repair hobby into a career.
Farnham Repair Café not only helps reduce waste and carbon emissions but also fosters a spirit of collaboration and skill-sharing within the community. The 100th session exemplified its mission to provide accessible, sustainable solutions while encouraging people to fix rather than discard their belongings.
