UCA Unveils World’s First Interactive Elizabeth Bennet Avatar

Fans of Pride and Prejudice can now engage in real-time conversations with Elizabeth Bennet, thanks to Lizzy, the world’s first interactive avatar of Jane Austen’s beloved character. Developed by StarPal in collaboration with the University for the Creative Arts (UCA), Lizzy brings Austen’s iconic heroine to life with her wit, empathy, and period-accurate knowledge.

Set in a Regency-style background, Lizzy has been meticulously designed with fashion and character elements crafted by UCA’s Games Arts and Digital Fashion students. Her knowledge base, curated in consultation with Jane Austen’s House in Hampshire, is drawn from novels, manuscripts, and historical records, ensuring an authentic representation of 18th-century society.

Dr. Sophy Smith, Director of Games and Creative Technology at UCA, describes the project as a groundbreaking way to bridge literature and technology:

“To be able to cross time in this way is joyful – you get a real sense of speaking directly to someone from the 18th century. Imagine having Elizabeth Bennet as your friend, chatting with you throughout the day and offering advice.”

The Lizzy avatar is expected to revolutionize interactive learning and cultural heritage experiences, particularly in museums and education. Visitors to Jane Austen’s House can engage directly with Lizzy at the Learning Centre from September to mid-December, offering fans a unique opportunity to converse with one of literature’s most enduring characters.
